Metal doesn't belong just on the outside of a building. Some of the most striking design features in Reno and Tahoe-area homes are fabricated from steel — around fireplaces, in kitchens, on walls, on stairs, and in places you might not expect.

Hot rolled steel, blackened steel, stainless steel, and other metals bring a warmth, texture, and permanence that's hard to replicate with other materials. They age well, they work in modern, rustic, industrial, and transitional spaces, and when they're fabricated right, they become the piece everyone notices.

Hot Rolled Steel: The Material of the Moment

Hot rolled steel has become one of the most requested materials for interior design in mountain homes. It has a distinctive look — a dark, slightly textured surface with subtle variation and depth that changes depending on the light. It feels warm despite being metal, which is why it pairs so well with wood, stone, and concrete.

The surface develops a natural patina over time, especially if left unsealed or lightly waxed. For homeowners who want a material that tells a story and gains character with age, hot rolled steel delivers.

Fireplace Surrounds

A custom metal fireplace surround can completely transform a room.

Full surround walls. A full-height hot rolled steel panel spanning floor to ceiling around a linear gas fireplace. Dramatic, modern, and the anchor of the space.

Frame surrounds. A steel frame bordering the firebox opening, sometimes extending to form a mantel shelf. Clean, minimal, effective.

Hood-style surrounds. For wood-burning fireplaces, a fabricated metal hood captures smoke while adding a strong visual element. Common in Arts and Crafts and mountain lodge designs.

Every surround we build is custom-sized to the firebox and surrounding wall. We work from drawings, sketches, or photos with measurements.

Kitchen Range Hoods

A custom metal range hood is one of the highest-impact design elements in a kitchen. We fabricate range hoods in hot rolled steel, stainless steel, blackened steel, and other metals. Most are built as a decorative shell that wraps around a commercial vent insert — you provide the insert specs, and we build the hood to fit.

Accent Walls and Panels

Metal accent panels add texture and depth to walls without the weight of stone. We've fabricated panels for media walls, entryway features, bar and restaurant interiors, and office spaces. Panels can be flat with visible seams, overlapping, perforated, or mixed with wood.

Stair Components and Railings

Metal stair railings, stringers, and guardrails are both functional and decorative. Cable railing systems with steel posts offer a clean, modern look that doesn't block views — popular in Tahoe homes with mountain sightlines.
